Mission

Arthur has a small but active Home & School Association. They hold monthly meetings at which they plan activities in support of the school—book fairs, picture day, and various fundraisers. In addition, Home & School parents volunteer in the classrooms and in the Safe Corridors Program, a safety initiative that stations parents at corners and on the blocks en route to the school to ensure that students arrive at school promptly and safely.

Arthur holds an annual “Math and Language Arts Family Night” for students and parents. Faculty members create a variety of math and language arts stations providing activities such as Math 24, “Story Starters” and computer games. A librarian from the Free Library attends each year to conduct story telling activities for families and offer information on Summer Reading Programs. The Home & School Association provides all attendees with “Boxed Suppers”, and neighborhood partners the Police Athletic League and Christian Street YMCA join the festivities to complete the evening.

Arthur also hosts a special Valentine’s Day Celebration called “I Love My Child” Day. This provides an opportunity for parents and grandparents to visit the school, share refreshments, and admire student work on display. Other annual signature celebrations include Career Day, and Black History Month Programs.

The Arthur faculty is truly devoted to the students, and this is evident in the Staff Mentoring Program, which enables teachers and other school personnel to serve as mentors to students in need of additional adult guidance.

Arthur offers a before-school program and extra-curricular activities. These include: Health Club, Girls Club, Arts Club, Yearbook, Math 24 Club, Early Elementary Math Club and Reading Club. The Police Athletic League is housed in the school building, which provides after-school recreational activities to students free of charge.

Campus Features

Arthur’s campus features three separate courtyards for recreation and a community garden. Mural Arts partnered with the school to create nature-themed murals in the courtyards. The children enjoyed participating in the artistic process, and continue to benefit from the beauty of the murals as they play and learn in the courtyard spaces.

Arthur also boasts a technology lab and a science lab which enhance the educational experience for students.
