McCall’s Home & School Association is an active participant in all aspects of the School. Parents volunteer in classrooms, in the playground, lunchroom, cybrary, Help Desk and office. Since 2005, the McCall Home & School has raised over $150,000 for the school. These funds have helped build the cybrary, acquire Promethean Boards for all classrooms, purchase and install a scoreboard for the athletic program, procure books for the 100 Book Challenge Reading Program, purchase a new sound and lighting system in the Auditorium for student and guest performances, and many other projects benefiting the children. Recent efforts are devoted to a new K-8 Science Lab, which will be completed in 2011.
The Home & School Association holds monthly meetings to plan a variety of events for the students including Blue and Gold Day, Special Recognition Luncheons, Graduation Awards, Literacy Night, Reading Olympics, Science Fair, various fundraising and social events, as well as supporting all aspects of the school programs. The Principal attends these meetings regularly.
The School Administration is always willing to address parent concerns and suggestions, demonstrating the positive rapport and strong collaboration between the Parents and Faculty.
McCall prides itself on diversity, and holds various celebrations throughout the year honoring the different cultures that are represented in the school. Chinese New Year is a huge event, with feasts, ceremonial costumes, and performances by students as well as professionals. There is also a significant observance of Black History Month, with assemblies and lessons to celebrate African American history and culture.
The School Council, comprised of Principal, Faculty and Parents, serves as a Leadership Board for the school and meets monthly to address issues and make improvements to the School’s overall climate and instructional program.
McCall offers an array of extracurricular activities and clubs in conjunction with After School Activities Program, and other community partners. These include: Chess Club, Yoga Club, Yearbook, Drama Club, Choir, Homework Club, Computer Club, Math 24 Club, Competitive Cup Stacking Club and a basketball team.

McCall’s school yard provides a variety of activities for the students’ recreation. The playset offers the latest in climbers, bridges, slides and bars, all in accordance with all safety and ADA codes, set atop a soft rubber surface. In addition, the entire schoolyard was recently repaved, and new, attractive tubular steel fencing was installed around the perimeter. Under the direction of the Physical Education Teacher, McCall has implemented “Socialized Recess”, which has clearly delineated areas of the yard for a variety of recreational activities such as handball, jump rope, hopscotch, 4-Square, and basketball.
McCall also has a mural courtesy of the Mural Arts Program with support from Fleisher Art Memorial. The mural, which was designed, created, and installed by the upper school students under the direction of local artist David McShane, depicts a “health and fitness” theme. The mural is in the gymnasium, which doubles as the lunchroom, and portrays a variety of children engaging in fitness and sports activities, surrounded by healthy foods. It has greatly enhanced the space and creates a constant reminder to the children of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
